Finn Lattimore

Principal Researcher

Finn has a background in physics and over 10 years of experience in leveraging data to solve applied problems at scale. She completed her PhD in machine learning in 2018, with a focus on algorithms that disentangle causation from correlation – which is critical if machine learning techniques are to be applied to guide actions and decisions. Finn has built data-driven systems with impacts on millions of people and has published research at top-tier conferences.

At Gradient, she is working to develop and communicate approaches to machine learning and AI that make explicit the assumptions and value judgments they encode, so that we can ensure that AI-driven systems satisfy ethical and social norms and improve wellbeing.
